The Government has announced how it will break up local Government across our area, and it has chosen some of the worst possible outcomes for our communities across Leicestershire, Rutland and Lincolnshire, while imposing the proposals of urban Leicester and Lincoln.

Rutland, England's smallest County and our Harborough Villages are to be to be forced into a sprawling rural Leicestershire Council serving over 578,000 people in a donut around the city.

The story is the same in Lincolnshire, with Stamford and South Kesteven being integrated into a giant council alongside Gainsborough, Boston and Skegness of around 574,000.

Some of our Harborough Villages will be taken over by Leicester City: Thurnby, Bushby, Scraptoft and Stoughton, and no longer be part of Leicestershire.

All the communities I represent have had cities put first, with our Market Towns, villages and rural communities treated as an afterthought. We deserve better than this.

You made your views clear at every stage: at every public meeting, consultation responses, in thousands of emails, and through 7,141 signatures on our Save Rutland petition. We wished to remain as we are, or to join with our Lincolnshire neighbours. The Government's decision to press ahead regardless is, frankly, appalling, and it shows a disregard for us all.

However, this fight is far from over. That is why I am launching a petition and asking for your support. Every signature sends a clear message to the Government that we will not be taken for granted. Once I have gathered the signatures of as many residents as possible, I will present the petition on the floor of the House of Commons.

Please sign the petition, and share it with your neighbours.
