Alicia Kearns MP held her third public meeting to update Rutland residents on local council re-organisation, following the submission of the first proposals by councils to Government.
Over 180 residents attended the public meeting at the Victoria Hall in Oakham, where Alicia set out what proposals local councils have put forward to Government, what happens next, and what they would mean for the future of local government in our communities.
The vast majority of the meeting was questions from attendees as residents shared their thoughts and priorities on local council re-organisation.
A series of straw polls at the conclusion of the meeting showed that all bar eight attendees wanted to merge with North Kesteven, South Kesteven and South Holland under local council re-organisation. Only two attendees preferred the Leicestershire North model and six were undecided about which proposal they prefer at this point.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said:
“This public meeting was an important opportunity for us to come together as a community to understand and discuss the first proposals submitted to Government and for residents to share their views and ask questions on these plans which will so fundamentally re-define the services we receive.
“The room was nearly unanimous on joining a new North Kesteven, South Kesteven, South Holland and Rutland Council.
“I will be asking the same questions at my next meeting in Stamford and taking away this feedback as I continue to fight to ensure residents’ voices are listened to.”
Alicia is holding a second public meeting on Thursday (27th March) from 5.30 - 7pm at the Stamford Arts Centre. All Stamford, South Kesteven and Rutland residents are welcome to attend.
