During a Parliamentary delegation to Tibet, Alicia Kearns MP met the Dalai Lama and addressed the people of Tibet.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said:
"It was a profound honour to be granted an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and to witness the swearing-in of Penpa Tsering as Sikyong, the first British MP’s to ever attend.
"The people of Tibet demonstrate extraordinary courage, resilience and determination in defending their culture, language, religion and homeland in the face of systematic oppression by the Chinese Communist Party.
"The world can no longer remain silent. It is time for nations and leaders everywhere to match the bravery of the Tibetan people and speak out against the cultural genocide that the Chinese Communist Party continues to inflict upon Tibet.
"May the day of reunion come soon."
