Alicia Kearns MP cut the ribbon on Barrowden’s New Community Hub after a ten-year long campaign by villagers to replace the 98-year-old village hall.
In 2023 Alicia supported the Barrowden Village Hall Development Group to secure £300,000 from the Government’s Community Ownership Fund. The Group was then able to go on and secure a £250,000 National Lottery grant, in addition to further grants from charitable trusts and donations, including significant support from the local community.
The new hub features a 125-person capacity main hall, and will provide a new space for dementia support meetings, mother and baby classes, parties, community gatherings and more.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said:
“This project is what community is all about, creating an incredible space for everyone to come together for years to come.
“It’s by no means been an easy journey to secure the funding, after the pandemic forced initial plans back to the drawing board, so it was really wonderful to come together and open what is an amazing legacy to the hard work and determination of the people of Barrowden.”
