Alicia Kearns MP has raised her objections in Parliament to the approval of Chinese Communist Party’s plans for a new super-embassy in London.
In light of the unredacted plans for the embassy being uncovered by the Telegraph, in an Urgent Question last week Alicia urged the Government to listen to security concerns, protect our country and say no to the Chinese Community Party Embassy.
Last night, ahead of the Government’s approval of the embassy, Alicia responded to an Urgent Question asking the Government if it would join objections from across the House or “choose a dereliction of their duties”.
Alicia also made a Point of Order about the choice of Government Departments answering Urgent Questions on the embassy. Alicia asked, “if the Ministers will not answer on other people’s briefs, despite collective responsibility” and “if they won’t answer on their own briefs, how are we to get answers in this place?”. The Minister declined to respond.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said:
“Labour’s greenlighting of the Chinese Embassy has gifted the Chinese Communist Party a launchpad for economic warfare at the heart of London.
“Despite the clear opposition from across the House, the Government won’t listen. Instead, they have put our security at risk in a desperate effort to solve their self-inflicted economic woes.
“The Government can no longer hide behind planning procedure. Questions must be answered, and Ministers must own their decision and all future consequences.”
