On Friday (6th February), Alicia Kearns MP visited Oakham Shires School for a tour and a Q&A session with students to learn more about the specialist secondary education on offer.
Alicia met the Deputy Headteacher, Claire Sillett, and the Pastoral Lead, Paul Mackay.
Following a tour of the school, Alicia met the Student Council and took questions from students about her role as an MP.
Throughout the visit, the school ethos was clear, focusing on encouraging students to become “Curious, Courageous, Communicators, and Confident” learners, known as “the Four Cs”.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said:
“It was wonderful to visit Oakham Shires School and see first-hand the outstanding specialist education on offer which is so carefully tailored to every student.
“Meeting the Student Council and hearing directly from young students about their experiences made it clear just how important inclusive and supportive education is in helping every child to thrive and reach their full potential.”
Michelle Jordan, Headteacher of Oakham Shire School, said:
“The visit from Alicia Kearns was a hugely positive experience for our pupils. They were highly engaged and proud to showcase our school and share their learning, and the visit played an important role in supporting their understanding of the wider world and their place within it.”
