National Highways has announced further safety works on the A1 between South Witham and Little Ponton.

Work will include resurfacing and refreshing road markings, improving signage, clearing vegetation and carrying out layby maintenance work.

The work is scheduled to start mid-January for completion by the end of March 2025. To keep the programme of work as short as possible, and to minimise disruption to the local community, work will take place between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday.

During the closures, a fully signed diversion will be in place from the A1 at Stamford, sending traffic along the A606 and A607 and rejoining the A1 at Grantham. National Highways also plans to have some daytime lane closures on the northbound carriageway.

Once completed, all road users will benefit from improved road safety.

Alicia Kearns MP, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said:

“It is enormously welcome news that National Highways will be carrying out further safety improvements on the A1, this time between South Witham and Little Ponton.

“While there is still more to be done, this maintenance work is an important step forward to improve the safety of this stretch of the A1.”
