Casterton

Casterton College in Rutland has been announced as one of the beneficiaries in the fourth round of the Government’s £1.8 billion School Rebuilding Programme.

The Government School Rebuilding Programme will carry out major rebuilding and refurbishment projects at 500 schools and sixth-form colleges over the course of this decade. 400 schools have been announced so far, with a further 100 expected to be confirmed in the coming years.

The new buildings will improve the educational opportunities for young people, ensure buildings are fit for purpose, and also be more energy efficient for future winter resilience, helping schools keep bills down and to meet the Government’s Net Zero commitments.

The majority of the projects are set to be completed in three to five years. The next step is for a survey to be carried out at the College, to allow the final funds to be determined.

Carl Smith, Principal of Casterton College said:

"This is wonderful news for the young people of Rutland and Stamford and our whole school community, and a dream come true for our students, staff and their parents. I would like to thank Alicia Kearns MP for her fabulous support for this project and we are incredibly grateful to her. Quite simply, it is the best Christmas present we could possibly have had, and we are very excited indeed."

Alicia Kearns MP, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton said:

“I am just so pleased that Casterton College has been awarded the Government funding they so rightly deserve. I know how much this funding means to staff, students and their families and it will transform the lives of so many young people across our communities. I very much look forward to visiting to see the refurbishment of this wonderful school.”
