Lincolnshire MPs have met with the Policing Minister to urge the Government to act now and prevent Lincolnshire Police declaring bankruptcy.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said:
"No English Police Force has ever gone bankrupt, but Lincolnshire Police are the most underfunded Force in England, and as a result of the new Government’s funding decisions – especially the National Insurance rise which is a multi-million pound bill for the Force - Lincolnshire Police are warning they will have to declare bankruptcy.
"Lincolnshire MPs asked the Home Secretary to meet with us urgently nearly two months ago. Finally a meeting has taken place.
"The Minister accepted Lincolnshire Police are comparatively underfunded, and we know the Government’s National Insurance rise has crippled the Force. Now they must act to protect residents of Lincolnshire and let our Police do their jobs keeping us safe, not having to negotiate with Whitehall."
