Over 2,000 residents have signed the Friends of Rutland County Museum and Oakham Castle's petition urging Rutland County Council to bring Rutland's ichthyosaur fossil back to Rutland County Museum.
Having exceeded the 1,500 threshold, Rutland County Council is now required to hold a full debate on the issues.
The deadline for petition signatures is midday on Friday 19th June. The petition is available for signing here.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said:
“Rutlanders have spoken loud and clear – our Sea Dragon belongs here, where it was discovered, and must be protected for future generations.
“Thank you to everyone who added their name. Together, we’ve hopefully secured a debate at full Council – now it’s over to them to act.” f
