A1 public meeting

Alicia Kearns MP held a public meeting in South Witham to hear from residents what priorities they have for improvements to the A1.

The meeting was open to anyone who lives along or drives the A1 regularly and lives in the constituency of Rutland and Stamford.

Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said:

"Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend my public meeting to share your suggestions on how we can make the A1 safer.

"Many of you raised closing the crossing points, which National Highways is currently reviewing between Stamford and Blythe, as well as banning HGVs from overtaking, painting chevrons on the road, extending slip roads and upgrading the road to a motorway standard.

"Hearing your personal stories and determination for us together to make the A1 safer brought home why I’ve been fighting for this and how much more we have to fight for.

"I will be taking forward your suggestion to National Highways when they come for a drive-along the A1 next month to see the issues first-hand and continuing to campaign in Parliament.

"I will continue to do all I can to fight for the road we all need the A1 to be. It’s not easy, it won’t be fast, but I will keep fighting."
