Please find the below update from Alicia Kearns on a Sunday morning train service between Leicester and Peterborough:
After many of you raised concerns about the lack of a Sunday morning service between Leicester and Peterborough, via Stamford, I asked CrossCountry whether they are able to trial or pilot a service for residents.
Network Rail was planning to open up the route on Sunday mornings whilst electrification work of the Midlands Main Line was carried out, allowing CrossCountry to potentially run two additional Sunday morning services in each direction.
Unfortunately, the Midlands Main Line electrification work has now been paused indefinitely by the Government, likely cancelled entirely, meaning that trialling the Sunday morning trains on this route is no longer possible.
I know this is very disappointing news for many residents, and I will continue to work to explore options to provide a Sunday morning train service in the future.
