Whilst Government guidance stipulates that sentences for attacks on Prison Officers should be consecutive, too often prisoners are receiving concurrent sentences. This is unacceptable, acts as no deterrence and essentially tells prisoners that they can go on attacking Prison Officers at will.
Our prison officers truly are unsung heroes, working to keep our communities safe and improve the lives of inmates to prevent reoffending. It is deeply important that we protect our Prison Officers from attack by ensuring sentences for violence against them are consecutive and not concurrent.
