Tough on Crime to Protect Our Communities

Alicia Kearns Outside Police Station

Every crime hurts our communities: I will take a zero-tolerance approach.

I want police more focused on rural areas and not just urban centres, and will support efforts such as the Rural Watch Scheme. Our police deserve to be better equipped to tackle our concerns locally, and as such I will always support giving them the equipment they need and legal frameworks to tackle criminality.

To support us locally I will work for tougher sentences for fly-tipping, and will support Police to crack down on anti-social behaviour and fraudsters and to introduce civil injunctions to stop hare coursing.

It's good news that Leicestershire Constabulary will benefit from 89 more police officers by 2020-2021 as part of the Conservatives' recruitment of 20,000 more police officers. I will ensure we get our fair share of the full 20,000.

I support the Prime Minister's efforts to rehabilitate offenders but ensure sentences are fitting. I also want tougher sentences for prisoners who attack prison officers, and for those imprisoned for terror offences.
