Oakham Train Station

The Transport Secretary has asked train operators to withdraw their proposals to close manned ticket offices. This follows a public consultation on the closures, which received over 750,000 responses from individuals and organisations.

The Transport Minister, Huw Merriman, has met with train operators and accessibility groups to discuss how we can incorporate reforms such as pay as you go ticketing, simplified ticketing, and access for all schemes to ensure our railway is open for everyone.

Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton, said:

"Having written to the Managing Director of East Midlands Railway to highlight my concerns, and working alongside many colleagues, and particularly Chris Loder MP, I am relieved that the strength of voices in our communities has been listened to.

"This should mean our ticket offices at Oakham and Melton Train Station remain manned and open.

"Thank you to all of you who took the time to raise your concerns via the public consultation on the closures. I know this decision will come as a great relief to our communities."
