Leicestershire and Rutland Local Authorities will receive £149,635,000 in additional Government highways maintenance funding between 2023/24 to 2033/34 for resurfacing roads and filling potholes.

This funding is part of the Government’s £8.3 billion uplift in funding for local highway authorities for roads resurfacing.

Total additional funding for Rutland and Leicestershire Local Authorities from 2023/24 to 2033/34:

  • Leicestershire Local Authority: £131,939,000

  • Rutland Local Authority: £17,696,000

Funding will transform the condition of local roads, allowing drivers smoother, faster, and safer trips – funded by savings delivered by the Prime Minister’s decision to cancel HS2 phase 2. All HS2 savings that would have been spent in the North or the Midlands will still be spent there.

Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton, said:

“This funding is a lifeline for our roads and highway infrastructure. Potholes are a menace for us all, and this funding will not only help resurface significant stretches of our roads, but also help maintain bridges and other critical infrastructure with our councils receiving significant new funds to do so."
